Foster Parent Ongoing Training — Instant Family Screening & Discussion
Location: RJ Cinema Eastgate (next to Jungle Jim’s East)
4450 Eastgate South Dr, Cincinnati, OH 45245
Time: 11am-2:30pm on Saturday, August 23rd.
Part training and part film screening, with popcorn provided free by the theater!
Instant Family is a dramedy based on writer-director Sean Anders and his wife’s real-life experiences fostering and eventually adopting three young siblings. The couple in the film (Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne) hit pretty much every road bump on the way to becoming a forever family. Ultimately the movie champions unconditional familial love and perseverance and argues that kids coming from extremely difficult circumstances are still kids who deserve love and a chance to flourish. (from Common Sense Media)
Stick around after the film for a discussion with other foster parents and your Beech Acres Foster Care Team.
Although this event/training is open to the whole family, be advised that the film is rated PG-13 due to some foul language and references some heavy issues (drug use, sexual abuse, physical abuse) that may be triggering for some.
For those of you in your first two year training cycle, this class will fulfill the requirements for the Resource Readiness topics: legal & ethical issues, culture and diversity, self-regulation, and managing placement transitions.
Please email tchapman@beechacres.org or khomsey@beechacres.org if you have any questions about this event or the movie’s content.
