Foster Parent Circle: Conversations and Connections
WEST SIDE
(West Price Hill area)
These small, in person sessions are designed to help build support and connections among our foster families. Sessions will occur in the homes of foster parents and will include discussions of issues and experiences in the world of Foster Care. Information about locations will be sent closer to the meeting date. Child care is not provided, however, there is limited space for registered children to accompany an adult.
These sessions are only open to foster families licensed through Beech Acres.
Please reserve one ticket per attendee. A Beech Acres employee will contact you closer to the session date to provide the location info.

Ongoing Foster Parent Training: CPR & First Aid
This class is for Ongoing Training and is only open to licensed foster parents with Beech Acres.
All Foster Parents are required to attend a CPR and First Aid Training course for Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, First Aid, and AED. This training is only open to currently licensed foster parents and class size is limited. After your registration is processed and accepted, you will receive an email with additional meeting instructions. Please register for each attendee. If for some reason you are unable to attend after registering, please notify us immediately at fctraining@beechacres.org so that we can offer that spot to the next attendee.

Preservice Module 3: Basics of Child Placement & Medication Management (IN PERSON)

Preservice Module 3 reviews the referral, placement, and matching process. We will also discuss what an informed decision is and the agency’s involvement post-placement. The last section of the training will review medication management.

Preservice Module 4: Trauma & Its Impact (IN PERSON)

This class helps participants understand trauma and toxic stress. Participants will also learn how the brain adapts based on experience and it’s impact on attachment and development. Lastly, participants will identify the needs to learn new skills and knowledge when providing care to a child who has experienced trauma.

Preservice Module 5: Discipline Foundations & Permanency (IN PERSON)

This class helps participants identify the knowledge and skills needed to effectively use discipline strategies, identify components of an effective approach to discipline, and identify three elements of an effective discipline strategy. We will also explore de-escalation strategies. The latter part of the training will review legal permanency options for the child and help to describe your role in supporting permanency goals.

Preservice Module 6: Roles and Responsibilities & Diversity (IN PERSON)

What are the roles and responsibilities of a foster care parent? In this module we will review those roles and responsibilities. Participants will also learn about diversity in the following ways: identify humility and competence as they relate to diversity, discuss issues of disproportionality and disparity within the child protection system, review implicit bias, identify strategies to provide an inclusive and equitable home.

Preservice Module 7: Partnering with Primary Families & Maintaining Connections (in person)
**This training is currently scheduled as an IN PERSON training at our main office, 615 Elsinore Place, Cincinnati, OH**
During this module participants will describe the benefits of partnering with the primary parent, identify strategies to be an effective partner, and summarize the importance of relationships to children in care.. Participants will also learn to identify the C.A.R.E. guide as Ohio’s recommended best practice in co-parenting and reunification efforts. Lastly, we will discuss how to support relationships with other important people, including siblings.

September Review for Alternative Caregivers and Respite Providers
This one hour class provides an overview of foster care rules and polices for individuals becoming approved as alternative caregivers or respite providers to care for foster children.
** Please note that this class is not eligible for ongoing training credit and is only approved for Alternative Care and Respite Providers.

Ongoing Foster Parent Training: Educational Advocacy (virtual)
Presented by Sarah Flohre from Cincinnati Legal Aid Society
Class will held via Zoom
The goal of this training is to: educate participants on the nuances of education law, the rights of children to appropriate educational services and the Child Find provision of the Individuals with Disabilities Act. Participants will also be better prepared to assist children facing disciplinary action in school. Finally, participants will be more aware of barriers to enrollment for children with special needs and how to overcome those barriers.
