Preservice Module 7: Partnering with Primary Families & Maintaining Connections

**This training is currently scheduled as a virtual Live Synchronous Webinar. Video is required.**

During this module participants will describe the benefits of partnering with the primary parent, identify strategies to be an effective partner, and summarize the importance of relationships to children in care.. Participants will also learn to identify the C.A.R.E. guide as Ohio’s recommended best practice in co-parenting and reunification efforts. Lastly, we will discuss how to support relationships with other important people, including siblings.

February Foster Parent Support Group: Foster “Parenting” (part 1) IN PERSON

Join us in February to share ideas and information with your foster parent cohorts. 

This 3-session support group provides foster parents with a safe and supportive cohort to explore the unique challenges and rewards of parenting in foster care. Each session will focus on a specific aspect of the foster care experience: foster (resource) parenting as an identity, managing the emotional complexities of parenting within foster care, and fostering self-care and resilience as caregivers. Through guided discussions and shared experiences participants will leave with emotional support and a deeper sense of connection with others on a similar path.

 NEW: There is limited childcare avaialbe for this session. Please click on this link to register each child. Due to the limited amount of space, we will not be able to provide child care for any child who has not registered in advance.

This training presents trauma-informed practices that use skills to connect with children through play and redirect problematic behaviors. It can be used with children of all ages. This training will help providers build skills for improving attachment and/or strengthening relationships while reducing mild to moderate behavior concerns. 
Childcare is not avaialbe for this training. 

This training is a required topic on most training plans and meets the requirements for the Resource Readiness topic:

  • Trauma and its impact on children and the family; promoting attachment

Preservice Module 1: Orientation & the Effects of Caregiving (IN PERSON)

**This training is currently scheduled as an IN PERSON training at our main office, 615 Elsinore Place, Cincinnati, OH**

Module 1 provides an overview of the child welfare system and examines the differences between foster care, adoption, and kinship care. Participants receive information about the needs of waiting children as well as the process of becoming a foster or kinship caregiver or adoptive parent. We will also examine the impact of foster care, kinship care, and adoption on individual members of the caregiving family as well as the impact on their relationships with one another. Participants are introduced to effective coping strategies to prevent against burnout and secondary traumatic stress.
