Beech Acres Parenting Center serves the Greater Cincinnati counties and has been connecting children with safe, loving, and well-trained foster parents for over 40 years. But we need your help.

How do I become a foster parent?
Basic eligibility requires a foster parent to be at least 18 years of age, have bedroom space for a child, submission of a background check, and having the income sufficient to meet the current needs of the household.
To become a Beech Acres Foster Parent, you must successfully complete preservice training, state and agency paperwork, and a comprehensive home study.
Can I adopt through foster care?
Beech Acres is a foster focused agency where our primary goal is supporting families towards reunification. Licensing to adopt is available through the process if permanency becomes a need.
How much does it cost to become a foster parent?
Beech Acres preservice classes and home studies are at no cost for prospective foster parents.
Do I need to be married to become a foster parent?
There are no relationship or family structure requirements to become a foster parent.
Do I have to own my own home to become a foster parent?
You can own or rent your place of residence and care for a foster child, but you must have adequate bedroom space.

MYTH
Teenagers in foster care are too risky and create chaos.
REALITY
Part of any teenagers role Is to be challenging. That’s the nature of being a teen. Mostly, teens in foster care have experienced trauma and need stability and care to work through that trauma.

MYTH
Most children in foster care have experienced trauma that cannot be healed.
REALITY
Using a strength-base, trauma informed approach every foster parent can make a difference to a child who has experienced trauma.

MYTH
I can’t foster, I’d get too attached.
REALITY
Instead of letting the fear of getting too attached deter us, we should actually let the fear of these kids never feeling truly attached to someone drive us. Being afrald of getting attached Is exactly what these children need – a person who cares deeply for them, regardless of their experlences or behavlors.

You must be a married, heteronormative couple to foster and adopt.
REALITY
Foster care providers are as diverse as the children In their care.
Single, married, LGBTQ+ we encourage anyone to get Involved who has a heart and a space for a child.

MYTH
Biological parents of kids in foster care are not good people and should not get their kids back.
REALITY.
Some blological parents have experlenced as much trauma as their child In care. They are people like everyone else. They make mistakes. But just like everyone else, they can learn and can change when supported and given the opportunity.

TRAINING & EVENTS
The state of Ohio requires 24 hours of preservice training before becoming a licensed foster parent. Beech Acres offers:
– A series of 8 three-hour classes
– CPR and First Aid certification
– A comprehensive curriculum designed to set you up for success
After licensure, we provide a variety of training classes to meet your individualized ongoing training plan. Our goal is to prepare and support you throughout your foster care journey.
